When your food business moves from the local level to the national or international level, you transition from a State License to a Central License. This is the highest level of food safety compliance in India.
The most common reason for a Central License is turnover. If your business earns more than **₹20 Crore per year**, you are legally required to hold a Central FSSAI License.
Some businesses MUST have a Central License regardless of their turnover:
| Feature | State License | Central License |
|---|---|---|
| Turnover Limit | ₹12 Lakh to ₹20 Crore | Above ₹20 Crore |
| Authority | State Food Safety Dept. | Central FSSAI Authority (HQ) |
| Processing Time | 30-45 Days | 45-60 Days |
| Govt. Fee | ₹2,000 - ₹5,000 | ₹7,500 per year |
